Surrounded by her loving family, Rose M. Gergel, age 99, passed away quietly and peacefully Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at her residence. Rose was born in Asherton, Texas, September 21, 1915, daughter of the late John and Agnes (Nee: Galambos) Talos immigrants from Hungary. In 1918 the family moved to Racine traveling in a covered wagon.

On December 23, 1942 she was united in marriage to her best friend and fishing partner Frank E. Gergel who preceded her in death, April 28, 1966. Rose was employed by Western Publishing for twenty-four years, retiring in 1976, and was a member of the “20 Year Club.” She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rose belonged to the Washington and Shoop Park Women’s Golf Leagues, Paradise North Senior Bowling League, Merry Makers, and the Lakeview Park Club. Rose enjoyed dancing, golfing, fishing, gambling, and traveling, especially to Hawaii and throughout the United States twice. She took great pride in caring for her home and yard. In her later years she moved to Parkview Senior Living where she enjoyed playing cards and socializing. Currently she resided at Wind Point Villa. More than anything she cherished and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Harry) Miller Voss of Racine; her granddaughters, Kristin (Michael) Darwin of Portland, OR, Jennifer (Jacob) Dallmann of Racine; her great-grandchildren Joshua (8), Natalie (6) and Gabriel (4); nephew, William “Bud” Bylsma Jr. of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Mary (Alvin) Johnson, Agnes (William) Bylsma, Betty (Lester) Hanson, Helen Talos, Joseph (Natalie) Talos, and John (Caroline) Talos.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, Tuesday, August 4, 2015, 6:00 P.M. with Reverend Mark Jones officiating. Private entombment will be held at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home 4:30 P.M. until 6 P.M.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Nikki Pfeifer and staff at Wind Point Villa for their loving and compassionate care this past year enabling Rose to enjoy a full and happy life. Her last two days she was comforted by her “Angel” nurses of Hospice Alliance, Angel, Kim, Celestica, and Marian.
