Harper, Ronald Portage Ronald Wayne Harper, 83 of Portage, formerly of Climax, went to be with his Lord October 7, 2021. He was born April 10, 1938 in Cadillac, MI to the late Harry and Elinor (Hansen) Harper. Ron was a resident of Climax for over 40 years, before moving to Portage in 2016. He served his country in the Army from 1961 – 1963, attaining the rank of Sargeant, prior to Honorable Discharge. He also served in Army National Guard from 1963-1968. Ron was employed by Fuller / Eaton Transmission as a machinist in Kalamazoo for 24 years. He later worked at Climax-Scotts Community Schools and Pharmacia / Upjohn until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of Wakeshma Community Church and taught AWANA for many years. Ron was united in marriage on June 27, 1970 in Battle Creek to the late Kathleen (Barney) Harper. Together they raised two sons who survive, Jeff (Kristin) Harper and Steve (fiancee Michelle Slaughter) Harper. Also surviving are their grandchildren: Austin, Haley, Sydney, and Samuel Harper and Stephanie Slaughter; Ron's sister Linda Odekirk; and several nieces and nephews. His brother Dale and parents preceded him in death. Ron was an unwavering provider for his beloved family and enjoyed drawing, gardening, traveling, woodworking and watching kids and grandkids sporting events. The family will greet friends Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 from 5:30 – 7:30pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 205 E Maple St, Climax, Michigan 49034. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00am at Wakeshma Community Church, 16732 E UV Ave, Fulton, Michigan 49052 with a reception immediately following. A private interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Wakeshma Community Church.
