Robert F. Wyman, age 92 , died on October27, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Corrine E. Hallam Wyman who died December 4, 2017. He was born in Detroit on February 5, 1926. He graduated from Redford High School in Detroit in 1944, served in the U.S. Navy, and in 1946 attended Western Michigan University where he met his future wife, Corrine Hallam. Bob graduated from Wayne State University in 1950 having excelled on the football team. He went on to coach at Wayne and earned his MA degree. He coached and taught in Detroit Public Schools until 1964 when he became the Offensive Line Coordinator at WMU. Along with his coaching duties he taught in the PE department at WMU and retired in 1990. Football was his passion. Coaching honors include: Detroit Free Press Coach of the Year 1960 for his successful season at Henry Ford High School, the Kalamazoo Gazette Coach of the Year in 1978 for achievements at Kalamazoo Christian High School. He also coached at Portage Central and Kalamazoo College. Bob was inducted into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame 1990, followed by induction into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. Guernsey Lake was his joy. Being surrounded by his family at his cottage in the summer was the best. Not only did Bob have stories from his coaching days and the war years, he would burst out in poetry at any given moment. Surviving Bob are his children, Corky (John Fisher), Marti (Larry Ulmer), and Kurt Wyman (Susan). His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joy: Reid Fonger (Melissa), Judson Fonger (Nicole), Meredith Ulmer Michaelson (Brian), Corey Ulmer Nemeth (Grant), Elizabeth Ulmer, Katy Wyman, Brooke Wyman and Bronson Wyman, Caleb Fisher (Amy), Jennie Fisher, Josh Fisher and ten great-grandchildren. A service will be held at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church 7028 Oakland Dr, Portage 49024 at 11am on Saturday, November 24 with a visitation the night before (Friday Nov. 23) from 6-8m pm at Chapel Hill. There will be a reception following the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Southwest Michigan, 222 N Kalamazoo Mall #100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or WMU Football Excellence Fund, 1903 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, MI, 49008-5422. Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven helped the family.
