Robert passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 after fighting cancer for 27 years. He is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Robert was born on January 16, 1930, in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Harlen and Grayce (Bushouse) Hoffa and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. Robert served as a volunteer firefighter with the Westwood Fire Department for many years and retired from the Meyer C. Weiner Company in 1995. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Grace Ann Hoffa and a grandson, Stephen M. Merz. On November 5, 1954, Robert married the former Joanne VanOosten, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Marcia L. (Stephen) Merz of Kalamazoo, Marlene K. Curtis of Hillside, NJ and Mark W. (Grace) Hoffa of Milford, NJ; six grandchildren, Rebecca Merz, Kathleen Merz, Matthew (Halley Anne) Curtis, Jonathan Curtis, Anthony Hoffa and Abigail Hoffa; a great-grandson, Rowan James Curtis; a brother, Henry (Mary) Hoffa of Kalamazoo; and a special niece and nephew, Marianne and Gary Caron. Services will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning, August 15th, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. Immediately following the service the Hoffa family will receive guests during a luncheon in the reception center at the funeral home. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South will follow the luncheon. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center in honor of Dr. Marcia Liepman who took care of Robert for 27 years and was always there for Joanne.
