Robert Harold Wightman, age 91, of Galesburg, MI passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016. He was born August 12, 1925 in Akron, OH the son of Ira and Ener (Wilbanks) Wightman. Bob served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS San Jacinto. He saw action in Saipan, Mariana's, Rota, Guam, Okinawa, and in Tokyo, Japan after surviving two Typhoons. He was so proud that he had served on the same ship with President George H. Bush. Bob married the late Lockie Norrod on December 4, 1948 in Rossville, GA. He retired from Kellogg Co. after 20 years of service. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and wood working. He is survived by his children, Gary (Cherry) Wightman, Robert Alan (Knickie) Wightman, Stephen (Cindie) Wightman; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lockie; step-mother, Sarah Elizabeth Wightman; a sister; and a half-brother. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Donald Barnes of Galesburg Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, (269) 965-5145.
