Robert Van Horn

Robert "Bob," M. Van Horn, age 78, of Bloomingdale, MI passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born February 5, 1939 in Bloomingdale, the son of the late Herbert and Jennette Van Horn and had lived in the area his entire life. Bob and his wife Nelda have been long time members of the Bloomingdale Christian Church where he served in almost every capacity possible. He served in AWANA for 28 years and truly loved children. Bob owned and operated Van Horn Construction since 1957 and had been an active member of the Bloomingdale Fire Department for the past 51 years. Bob had also served several terms on the Bloomingdale Village Council. Surviving is his bride of 58 years, Nelda; son, Robert A. (Vickie) of Battle Creek; 4 grandchildren, Joshua and Erika Voorhees and Barry and Grace Van Horn; brother, Herbert Junior (Cherry); sister, Carol (Gary) Begeman; sister-in-law, Olive Van Horn; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by daughter, Renee K. Spaanstra; a sister, Alta Jean (David) Ruiz; a brother, George Van Horn. The family will meet friends on Wednesday from 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 8 PM at the Bloomingdale Christian Church where funeral services will take place Thursday, 11 AM with Pastor Luke Veldt officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, Bloomingdale Christian Church or Cornerstone University, Renee Spaanstra Scholarship Fund.
