Life Story / Obituary

Robert (Bob) L. Sanders, age 63, of Milwaukee, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Born February 5, 1953 in Dayton, OH., Bob was the beloved son of Juanita (nee Jenkins) and the late Jack Sanders; dear brother of David (Janet) Sanders; nephew of the late Leon and Helen Jenkins and Wanda and Ron Oates; and further survived by other relatives and friends. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Bob was a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. After beginning his actuarial career at Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, IL., Bob moved to Milwaukee, WI. in 1979 to join Milliman in the Milwaukee Casualty practice where he worked for 36 years as a principal and consulting actuary. With only three employees when he was hired, Bob became recognized as a national expert in medical professional liability issues and helped grow the firm into one of the largest property and casualty actuarial consulting practices in the country. Bob’s genuine interest in both the professional and personal well-being of others was an instrumental contributor to his success. He considered his clients to be more than business associates; they were his friends. And Milliman he considered family.

Bob spent much of his time outside of work traveling to and hiking in his favorite national parks: Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, and Glacier. Much of his home was furnished with artwork that depicted his most beloved hiking spots. As an avid music fan, Bob had an extensive collection of albums and loved seeing his favorite artists perform live in concert.

When his father passed away, Bob moved his mother from Dayton to Milwaukee. He purchased a unit in his condo building for her so he could more easily provide care for her. He loved her dearly, and his loyalty and care for others will have a lasting impact on all those who knew him.
