Life Story / Obituary


Robert Earl McCullough, 86 of Traverse City formerly of Flint, went home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1928 in Flint the son of Guy Thomas Sr. and Anna Isabelle (McMurray) McCullough.

Robert attended General Motors Institute after high school for a skill trades apprenticeship in the early 1950's. He then entered the US Army where he served in the Korean Conflict.

After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Shirley Johns and started attending Baptist Bible Seminary & College in Johnson City, New York. After graduation, he returned to Flint and started working at the Buick Factory Plant where he retired as an Inspector after 44 years of service.

Robert was of member of the Flint Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was also on the Board of the Carriage Town Ministries. Robert was a master at fixing just about anything. He spent many enjoyable hours working in his garage. He loved gadgets.

Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley E. (Johns) McCullough; they were married on July 13, 1957; children, Paul McCullough of Detroit, John (Marilyn) McCullough of Georgia, Sally (Brian) Springstead of Traverse City and David (June) McCullough also of Georgia; grandchildren, Devin, Thadd, Megan (Brandon), Luke, Brody, Hudson and Brooke.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Guy Thomas McCullough Jr.

Memorial Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Flint. The family will greet friends starting at 10am.
