Robert (Bob) Lee Heater, 84 of Traverse City died Saturday, January 30, 2016 after a long battle with health issues.

He was born on December 29, 1931 in Traverse City, the son of Harmon Howard and Donna Elizabeth (Kelenske) Heater.

Robert was veteran in the Army Air force during the Korean Conflict.

He and his wife, Bernice were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Washington St., and later, Peninsula Dr. Bob helped put in the floors and pews in at Bethlehem . He was life member of the Traverse City Elks and a former member of the Traverse City Country Club and the Downtown Development Association.

Robert enjoyed listening to Jazz, hunting and fishing. He was very active by attending his children's school activities. Robert was the first male President of the Traverse Heights PTA. He was a boy scout leader and very active in educating the community on the benefits of having a YMCA in Traverse City. Robert worked with The Golden Gloves Program after boxing in high school. He coached many boys in Little League. He loved to joke and was great story teller. He and his wife both were considered Traverse City Historians and were sought out for history on Traverse City. Bob and Bernice were Restaurateurs, having 3 restaurants, managed 5 Night Clubs and was a Gas and Oil Broker. He spent many a Sundays repairing boats for his kids to water ski.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, brothers Norman and Kenneth Heater, and daughters Sandra (Tom) Pouzar and Lottie Anne Heater.

Robert is survived by his wife, Bernice (Conroy) Heater of Traverse City; they were married on September 24, 1949 in Traverse City; children, Linda Heater-Byler, Robert "Michael" (Cindi Crenshaw) Heater, David (Leslie) Heater and Cathy (Tom) Reed; sister Mary (Heater) Gordon and brother John (Kris) Heater, grandchildren, Dan Dreisbach, Jeni (Justin)Hough, Holly and Hans Salisbury, Sarah Pouzar, Brian and Harmon Heater and Lottie Heater; great-grandchildren, Adam (Tabetha) Dreisbach and Kayla Hough and great-great-grandchild, Leo David Dreisbach and his beloved Mr. Higgens.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1pm, Saturday, February 6, 2015 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends starting at 12 noon. Private burial will be in the City of Traverse City Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the VA Volunteer Services, designate, Traverse City VA Clinic or the History Center of Traverse City.
