Life Story / Obituary

Robert Edward Green, D.O., 66, of Williamsburg, died Sept. 21, 2015.

Robert was born April 23, 1949 in Traverse City, the son of Dr. George K. and Ruth (Fairweather) Green.

He graduated from Elk Rapids High School and continued his education at Hillsdale College. He received his doctorate from Chicago Osteopathic School. After graduation, he took over his father’s family practice in Elk Rapids as a second generation doctor. Robert was also the admitting physician at the State Hospital in Traverse City until it closed.

Robert enjoyed working and helping others. He was a very “old school” doctor, never hesitating to make house calls or office visits after hours to help those in need, even when they didn’t have the financial means.

He was a member of the Elk Rapids Sportsman’s Club and Sons of AMVETS.

Robert is survived by daughters, Lindsey R. Green (Rita Pallitto), of Williamsburg and Katherine E. Green (Mike Kunes); grandson, Patrick Kunes, of West Virginia; step-son, Marc Quint, of Williamsburg; former spouse and lifelong friend, Susan Ann Zak, of Williamsburg; sister-in-law, Lunny Green, of Paw Paw; and nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Green; brother, George F. Green; and his cat, Dr. Pepper.

An informal Celebration of Life will be held 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 at the AMVETS Post 114, Elk Rapids.

Dr. Green was willing to help anyone at anytime. In his honor, he would be pleased if you shared a random act of kindness with someone in need.
