Derrico, Robert William Robert William Derrico, 85 of Portage Mi. passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Portage on December 5, 2016, following a lengthy battle of cancer. He was born April 1, 1931 to the late William and Angelina Derrico of Chicago, Illinois. Robert moved to the Kalamazoo area with his family in 1977. Robert retired from the Eaton Corporation (Clark Equipment) where he was employed the majority of his adult working life. During the retirement years, Robert held various jobs to keep busy and spend time with people. Robert had a strong fighting spirit and determined personalty to overcome hardships that presented themselves during his lifespan here on earth. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was grateful to watch the final game of the World Series and was ecstatic when they clinched the title. Robert was passionate about cars and would spend time collecting and building model cars. Watching movies, listening to music and spending time with his family were some of his favorite past times. Surviving are his 3 children, Laura Hasty of South Bend, IN, Ken Derrico (Terrejo, Stephen, Analise) of Paw Paw, MI, and Donna (Byron) Kelly of Spring Lake, MI as well as his 7 grandchildren, Jason, Tony, Sean, Kara, Nathan, Tyler and Emily. As per wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Whitley Memorial Funeral Home of Kalamazoo is handling the arrangements. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center and Institute for Blood Disorders, Attn.
