Surrounded by his loving family, Richard W. Sura, age 84, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at his residence. Richard was born in Racine, October 25, 1931, son of the late George and Mae (Nee: Flanigan) Sura.

He was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1951”. Richard proudly served in the United States Army 3rd Infantry 64th Tank Battalion during the Korean War. On May 27, 1995 in Racine he was united in marriage to Nancy Ver Meulen who preceded him in death March 7, 2012. He was an electrician for almost sixty years, retiring in 1995, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker Local 430. Truly an outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on the Mississippi River fishing with Nancy. He was also a Wisconsin sports enthusiast who was an avid Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Colleen (Steve) Fiore of Racine, Joe (Patricia) Sura of Pleasant Prairie, Randy Sura of Racine, Larry Sura (Leah Neutzel) of Winneconne, David (Joanne) Sura of Girard, OH, Peggy (Langdon) Sura of Racine, Elizabeth (Marvin) Gronholm of Racine, Jennifer (David) Cina of Pleasant Prairie; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Jeanne) Sura, James Sura, all of Racine; brother-in-law, Jerome Groulik; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Sura; brother, Robert Sura; sister, Marian Groulik; and nephew, Donald Sura.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016, 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 10:30 A.M. Memorials to the V.F.W. Post 1391 have been suggested.

Thanks to the staff at Elizabeth Gardens for taking care of Dad, and Aurora

at Home for the great care at the end of Dad’s life. Also a thank you to his

daughters, Colleen and Peggy for taking care of him the last few years..
