Hall, Richard Kalamazoo On November 3, 2020, Richard Ellsworth Hall, frequently known as Dick Hall, passed away peacefully. He lived a full life, and with his family at his side, he died in his sleep from heart failure. Dick was a remarkable man who strongly believed in honesty and integrity, except for when playing golf or cards. He was born on October 24, 1936, in Hardwick, Vermont, the son of John and Bettie (Crowley) Hall. He was a proud Eagle Scout and attended West Point. Richard served as an Aircraft Fire Control Technician in the Marine Corps. from 1958 until 1962. After meeting on a blind date, he married Maida Lang on Dec 19, 1964; together they had 4 children. Richard was a graduate of the University of Washington and a member of the Marine Corps League. Dick devoted his life to his children's activities-he served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, soccer coach, softball coach, football coach, President of Oakwood Little League, President of AWB Golf League, and co-founder of the Loy Norrix All Sports Booster Club. In 1981, Dick advocated for the booster club's start when the local schools changed from a free, to a pay-to-play system, and he found himself cheering for 4 kids playing multiple school sports. For over 25 years, Dick enthusiastically served as a CCHA Hockey Goal Judge for the Western Michigan University Hockey Team. Dick enjoyed many activities like large family gatherings, hanging out with his grandkids, Friday afternoons at the VFW, golfing, card games, oil painting, and grilling rare steaks by the pool. Richard began his telecommunications career working as a lineman for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company in Seattle, WA and eventually retired as a Senior Network Systems Engineer at AT&T. He is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Maida (Lang), 4 children: Christopher Hall of Denver, CO; Jennifer Hall & Jeff Gearhart of Ann Arbor; Kim & Tony Cekola of Ann Arbor; Jeff & Rosie Hall of Kalamazoo, 8 grandchildren: Leif, Jonas, Carson, Conan, Ethan, Morgan, Josey, and Zoey; numerous nieces & nephews, and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Hall and sister, Marjorie Muszala. Dick Hall impacted the lives of many. Dick and Maida were always there to welcome everyone into their home, at all times of day, except before noon on Sundays. He treated everyone as family, and he was an influential father figure to many. We look forward to celebrating his legendary life with his friends and family during the summer of 2021. Memorials may be made to the Joseph A. Cekola Memorial Fund via www.cekolafund.org or the Ann Arbor Housing Commission via www.a2gov.org/housingcommission. Memorials can also be sent to: Redmond Funeral Home 4100 S. Westnedge, Kalamazoo, MI. 49008.
