Gregory, Richard A. of Kalamazoo Dick passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, October 1, 2016. He was born on April 6, 1945 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Clifford and Mary (Peters) Gregory. Dick was a 1963 graduate of Loy Norrix High School and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam Conflict. On March 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Sharon Eager. He was employed by Oven Fresh Bakery for 35 years until his retirement. He was the past President of Parchment Little League for 5 years, where he was instrumental in developing the new Little League Baseball Fields. Dick was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and an active volunteer for the Parchment Boosters for over 20 years. In 2014, he received the Michigan Association of School Administrators Champion For Children award for all of the fundraising and help he gave the Parchment community. Dick was also the Senior Vice-Commander for Comstock VFW Post #6252, where he was instrumental in acquiring a grant for post remodeling. Surviving are his wife of 46 years: Sharon Gregory; their sons: Jason Gregory and Darrick Gregory both of Kalamazoo; sister: Marilynn Kline of Portage; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Hugh and Debbie Chapman; nieces: Kim Kline and Lori (Eric) Vorpi, Darcie Chapman and Kelsey (Brett) Kiel; and an adoring grand niece and nephew, Tessie and Tate Kiel, who Dick always had a piece of candy for. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Monday & Tuesday, October 3 & 4, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A funeral service to celebrate Dick's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of memorial contributions Dick's family requests friends donate time to their school, community or their favorite charity.
