Richard Godsey

Richard "Yo" Godsey was a good man. He passed in the early hours of Friday, July 27th, at age 84. The weeks leading up to his transition were difficult at best. Fairly recently, he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and his deterioration was quick and thorough. While we all miss him greatly, we are also grateful that his suffering has come to an end. He was preceded in death by first wife Maxine, and son, Craig. He is survived by son, Michael (Barbara) Godsey, and daughter, Sheri (Dave) Johnson. Sheri was daddy's girl and her heart is broken into many pieces. The last 16 years of his life he was married to Frances McCartney, or Tikey Ploughman, as he endearingly called her. Fran's children Linda Sandin, Michelle (Al) Valkema, Lisa (Liz) McCartney, Patti (Gy) Ludvig-McCartney, Julie (Gary) Wdowicki have become a beloved part of his life. While these years were short, they were enriched with many fun-filled experiences. He is also survived by grandchildren Allysa, Andrew, Samantha, Brandon, Brett, Sarah (Jayson), Ryan (Christi + Rachel), Nick (Jessica), Alex (Corina), Lucas, and Eric (Alyssa), and great-grandson Ayedenn. In the later years, Fran and Richard adopted two cats, Mackie and Foo, and he got such a kick out of them! There will be a celebration of his life on August 4, 2018 at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church (10441 Shaver Road, Portage, MI 49024) at 2:00PM.
