Richard Duryea

Duryea, Richard A. "Dick" Kalamazoo Age 86, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021. Dick was born in Plainwell, Michigan on May 19, 1934, the son of the late Keith V. and Hazel Duryea. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Dick retired from James River Paper Company after more than 30 years of employment. He enjoyed square dancing and taking vacations with his family. Dick loved to watch his grandkids play sports, including hockey and the great-grandkids' little league games. On May 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Sandra J. McNeill, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2017. Dick was also preceded in death by his son, Bob Duryea and grandson, Jason Duryea. He is survived by his children, Jeff Duryea, Becky (Kevin) VanDyke and Kim (Brian) LePert; grandchildren, Kristi and Alicia, Jesse and Cory, Jason (Gretchen), Derek (Alese) and Dillon (Amber); several great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sandy (Jeff) Soderquist and Rita (Terry) Tefft. A memorial service to celebrate Dick's life will take place on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Spring Valley Church, 5240 Mt. Olivet Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004, Pastor Kyle Wartella officiating. Private interment will be held at East Cooper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Sue's Loving Care.
