He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on September 26, 1989 to Julia and Bob Connelly. Richie was a life-long resident of Kalamazoo and Portage and a graduate of Portage Northern High School, where he participated in hockey, football and track and worked on the school newspaper staff. He received all-state scholar honors in hockey and was a Michigan Merit Scholar who had gone on to attend Western Michigan University. Richie was loved by all who met him and had a wide circle of friends. He is survived by his mother, Julia Connelly; his father and stepmother, Bob and Susan Connelly; his best friend and sister, Betsy Connelly; and too many friends to count. Everyone who knew Richie loved him, and what was not to love? He had a heart as big as the moon, and is loved and missed more than he could have ever imagined. A celebration of Richie's life will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Robert Morris Park in Comstock, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Project Hope or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
