Raymond Helder

Raymond J. Helder, age 92, died Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at Appledorn Assisted Living Center. He was born in Holland, Michigan on October 27, 1923, the son of Gerrit and Lambertha (Baron) Helder. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin Helder, sister Delia (George) Van Eenenaam, and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marilyn (Van Dyke) Helder, his children, Patricia (Peter) Nordstrom of Ponce Inlet Florida, William (Roxanne) Helder of Holland Michigan, and Mary Anne (Reed) Bunce of Camden Michigan. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Ray graduated from Holland High School and served in the Army during WWII. After returning home, he attended Hope College and the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He became Executive Vice President of Peoples State Bank. He served on many community service organizations including United Way, Fraternal Order of Police, Lions Club and Holland Jaycees. Funeral will be 11 am Tuesday (November 10) at the Third Reformed Church, 111 West 13th Street, with the Rev. Kama Jongerius and Rev. Peter Nordstom officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-10:45am, Tuesday (November 10), prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.
