Raymond G. Brenner, age 87 of Shelbyville, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home. Mr. Brenner was born February 22, 1929 in Martin Township, Michigan, the son of the late Gottlieb and Margaret (Barnhardt) Brenner. Ray was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hopkins. He had been a dairy farmer in the Martin area all of his life. He also worked for NACHURS Fertilizer Company for over 40 years. Ray enjoyed staying active in his community by serving on the Martin School Board, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) Board and the Martin Zoning Board. Being an avid hunter, he and his good friend, Richard "Dick" Davis, would spend a lot of time together hunting and traveling across the country as well as outside the United States. Never a dull moment when Ray was around to tell of his adventures. Raymond is survived by his children: James and Debra Brenner, Jan and Steve Johnson, Julie Spencer, Joy Brenner and Joe Henry, Ray and Sarah Brenner; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Linda and Les DeJong; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma and 3 sisters: Pauline, Wilma and Evelyn. Friends may meet with the family on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 5-8pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17 at 10am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hopkins, Pastor Donald Seelhoff officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Ray's name to the Wings of Hope Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland.
