Ramona Mae Mears, age 90, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Rhinelander, WI, March 3, 1925, daughter of the late James and Lydia (Nee:Cole) Foss.

On November 26, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baraboo, WI, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thomas J. Mears and they moved to Racine. Together they raised 5 children. Tom passed away October 21, 1982. Following Tom’s death, Ramona went to work for Lincoln Lutheran in the central office. She retired in 1999 and moved to Las Vegas by her son, Tommy and his family. Ramona was a member of St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church and a former longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Keno, camping with her family and friends in Baraboo and traveling with her dear friend Betty. She will fondly be remembered for her famous “Ramona Mae’s Fudge”. More than anything she treasured time spent with her family and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her children; Ramona (Harold) Oertel of Racine, Thomas (Donna) Mears Jr. of Las Vegas, Colleen (Mark) Kechter of Racine, James (Theresa) Mears of Nashville, TN, John (Donna) Mears of Nashville, TN; 15 grandchildren Maggie, Gene, Martha, Tommy, Erin, Joey, Kyla, Kristin, Kasey, Dustin, Ashleigh, Kevin, Becky, Johnny and Angie; 22 great- grandchildren; 3 brothers, Jack Foss of CA, Eugene (Julaine) Roach of Mauston, WI, Johnny (Sharon) Roach of Wausaukee, WI; and sisters-in-law Joyce & Carol Roach; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Meroe, sister, Sharon (Bob) Hughes, and brothers, Herman (Laura) Foss, James (Hazel) Foss Jr, Donald (Mary) Foss, Elwood Foss, Richard Roach, Thomas Roach, Ramon (Carol) Roach and sister-in-law Alida Foss.

A Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 7, 2015, 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Dr, with Reverend Steve Stradinger officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home 4-6 P.M. and on Monday at the church 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 10:30 A.M.. Memorials to St. Mary’s by the Lake or the Blood Center of Wisconsin have been suggested.
