Peter Hardy Geis, age 84, recently of Allendale, after many years living in Solon, OH , passed into God's eternal care on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids. The son of Willis and Hope (Cook) Geis, he was born November 21st, 1934, in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Norman, and survived by loved ones who will miss him: his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou (Thacker); children, Tim and Angie Geis of Otsego, Kimberly and Glenn DeRitter of Jenison; grandchildren, Ben, Joshua, Hannah, Leah DeRitter, and Matthew Geis; brother, Royall Geis of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law Diane Geis of Exeter, NH and Geri Geis of Naples, FL; brother-in-law Clarke Thacker (Nancy) of Venice, FL; numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind the many friends he enjoyed, loved, and sometimes sponsored, throughout 36 years of sobriety. Pete grew up near Long Island Sound, and enjoyed boating, fishing, and trips to coastal Maine with his parents and brothers. Music was an important part of family life, and Pete played oboe in the high school band, and in college. The University of Michigan brought him to Ann Arbor where he earned his B.A. and M.B.A., and met "Lou". Work took them and their children to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for Medusa Cement Corporation, and eventually retired as Director of Labor Relations. He loved family, classical music, U. of M. sports, the Lake Michigan coastline, vacations to many parts of the world and the U.S., but especially the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. As a loyal husband, father, provider, friend, and man of wisdom, he will be greatly missed. He was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church in Maple Heights, and Parkside Church of Bainbridge, Ohio. He reminded his family often that it was by the grace of God alone through faith in Jesus Christ that he looked forward with confidence to his and our eternal salvation. Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 26th, at 11:30 am, at Bauer Christian Reformed Church, 4958 Bauer Road, Hudsonville, 49426. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. A memorial service at a later time is being planned in Ohio at Parkside Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Bauer CRC and/or Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook Ave., S.E., #300, Grand Rapids, 49546.
