Peggy Ann (Alphenaar) Forssell, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug 24, 2017. Peggy was born on July 27, 1952 to John & Betty Alphenaar. She grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School. She began her career as a Critical Care nurse where she daily demonstrated her care and compassion for others. She later received a Bachelor of Science Degree, which led to a career in the pharmaceutical industry, and an eventual move to New Jersey. Peggy has always been grounded in her faith, and she was actively involved in her church communities. She loved being a part of the church choir. Peggy served whenever able in both domestic and international missions. She cherished her family and friends. Her two daughters were the center of her life, along with her husband and grandchildren. She was very athletic and loved being outdoors: From skiing to gardening, sailing to scuba diving, spending time on the beach to riding her Harley. She also loved music, and playing the piano. She was a remarkable woman with a big heart, an infectious smile and energy, and she made lasting impressions and friendships wherever she went. For the last several years she lived with Lewy Body Disease, an aggressive dementia that robbed her of cognitive and physical abilities. She accepted it with grace, and all of those who journeyed with her during the years of illness have been deeply impacted by her unwavering faith, courage, and love. Peggy is survived by her husband Gunnar Forssell, two daughters Cara (Derek) Babin and Arika (Drew) Roelofs, and her seven beloved grandchildren, Jaclyn, Brooke, Lauren, Claire, Will, Michael and Faith. She is also survived by her mother, Betty Alphenaar, her brothers Stan (Julie) and Dan (Molly) Alphenaar, and a large extended family. Peggy was preceded in death by her father John Alphenaar (2016). The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 30, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, where also the Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 31. Those who wish may make contributions to The Esther School, 1333 Alger St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507, (www.estherschool.org) in memory of Peggy Forssell.
