Mrs. Boshoven passed away on Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI. Pearl was born June 12, 1934 in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. The daughter of John and Edith (McClay) Trestrail. Moving to Battle Creek as an infant, Pearl attended Court Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951. Pearl graduated with honors from Western Michigan College in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was affiliated with Sigma Kappa sorority, Arista, Modern Dance Club and was on the 1954 Homecoming court. In 1955 Pearl married Howard J. Boshoven of Grand Rapids whom she met in college. They were married over 50 years, until Howard's death in 2007. Pearl taught first grade at Edison School in Kalamazoo for three years before leaving to have a family. After 12 years at home with their three children, Pearl earned her Master's Degree in the Teaching of Reading and resumed her teaching profession at Woodland Elementary School in Portage. Teaching was very special to Pearl. She felt that touching the lives of young children over the years was a great privilege. In 1990 after retiring from 20 years of teaching, Pearl was given the chance to touch the lives of her grandchildren including becoming their caregiver while their parents were at work. It was an occupation that Pearl treasured. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Joan, and her husband Howard. She is survived by her brother John (Mary) Trestrail and his family, and her children June Belle of Oconomowoc, WI, Jane (Scott) Doherty of Portage, and James (Liz) Boshoven of Portage. She is also survived by her five precious grandchildren, Tyler (Leah) Bell of Hartland, WI, Brooke, Nikki and Carson Doherty of Portage, Mairin Boshoven of Portage, and great granddaughter Vada Bell of Hartland, WI. In accordance with Pearl's wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to visit with Pearl's family at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Friday, January 25 from 4:00 7:00 PM.
