Paul Dean Wood, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Traverse City, Michigan. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Carroll County, Mississippi, the son of Guy and Nona Wood. Paul married Helena (Lannie) Shaya, in Buffalo, New York and moved to Kettering, Ohio where they raised their sons Ellis and Doug. For the majority of his life, Paul was a painting contractor operating his own business called Perfection Painting in the Dayton, Ohio area. As for hobbies, Paul enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and visiting numerous National and State Parks. Yosemite was Paul's all time favorite place, it just amazed him. Paul's favorite things to do included Motorcycle riding, attending his sons, grandchildren's, and nieces' sporting events, camping and traveling with family, but eating Lannie's cooking was what he treasured most. Lannie and Paul also loved to spend time at their cabin in Hocking Hills, Ohio which was a family weekend gathering place. After an addition was built onto the cabin, it later became their home for seven years after retirement before moving to Traverse City to spend time with their grandchildren. At the cabin, Paul was always in charge of grilling meals to perfection over an open fire pit, usually followed by fried fruit pies, toasted marshmallows and maybe even s'mores. If their wood-burning fireplace needed refilling at any time, including the middle of the night, Paul was the man on the job to keep his sweetheart warm. He will be remembered as an active man always working on a project for himself or to help someone else. His caring personality, hard work and the patience of a Saint made him the great Father, Grandfather and "Uncle Paul" that he was. Paul is survived by his son, Ellis (Mary) Wood; grandchildren, Evan, Caitlin, Bronson, Addison, and Allison. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lannie Wood; son, Douglas Wood; and grandson, Kyle Wood. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share a message with the family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City, Michigan.
