Pat passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on Saturday, June 16, 2018, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Kalamazoo on September 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Floyd and Marguerite (Wilson) Owen. From a young age Pat had a gift for helping others and that gift and compassion carried throughout her entire life. She was a candy striper at Borgess Hospital in the 1950s when she met her husband Al Jager, Jr. They shared 63 memorable years of marriage. Their union resulted in four daughters, Sheril (Dave) Moore, Deborah Clark, Julie (Bob) Saldivar and Kay (Todd) Davidson; all of whom she leaves behind. Pat also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Smith; brothers, Jack (Donna), Mike (Evelyn), Clare, Babe (Nancy) and Denny (Martha) Owen; in-laws, Henry and Shirley Jager and Frances Alkema; and several nieces and nephews. Pat's entire life revolved around helping others. She worked for many years at Upjohn Nursing Home, then for Visiting Nurse and Hospice. After retirement, Pat took a job as a crossing guard with the City of Portage. She was selfless, loving and a caring soul to the end. Pat was an amazing cook and greatly enjoyed family meals and get-togethers. Her happiest moments were spent enjoying time with her family. Pat also enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. Favorite vacation destinations for Pat and Al included various northern Michigan locations, including Mackinaw City and Grand Marais, among many others. She had a quick wit, wonderful zest for life and a heart of gold. Pat will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence for their compassionate love and care. A service to honor her faith and life will be held at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49008, on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Greg Timmer officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Grace CRC.
