Rooney, Patrick M. 2/16/1951 - 8/24/2018 KALAMAZOO Patrick Michael Rooney passed away on August 24, 2018, after a battle with ALS, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Providence, RI, on February 16, 1951, the son of the late William and Rose Rooney. Patrick will be most remembered for his never-ending kindness, wisdom and optimism. He and his wife Frances loved the beach and instilled this love upon their children. Pat grew up in Rhode Island, and took his love of the Rhode Island ocean to the beaches of Lake Michigan when he and his wife, Fran moved to Kalamazoo in 1975. His lifelong career as a Social Worker started in Kalamazoo working as a Children's Services Worker for the State of Michigan. He then went on to affect the lives of countless students as a School Social Worker at Mattawan Later Elementary School where he worked for over 24 years. From his lunch-time chess club, to leading parenting groups, he truly loved his work. He also loved his family to the utmost extent and spent countless hours coaching many of his kids' soccer teams, and was deeply involved in his sons' Boy Scout troops, always willing to participate in committees and supervise summer camp activities. Pat was known for his endless stories and goofy sense of humor! He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Frances Rooney, his three children, Neil(Kayla) of Grand Rapids, MI, Emily of Seattle, WA, and Colin of Kalamazoo; grandson, Rylan; siblings, Kathrine Rooney of Warwick, RI, Charles (Edie) Rooney of Providence, RI, and Jayne(Peter) Rooney-Skomoroch of Syracuse, NY. To honor Pat's love of his home and family, guests are invited to gather at the Rooney home to remember the good times and share desserts from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, c/o the funeral home. Family and friends may share a condolence message online at www.joldersma-klein.com.
