Life Story / Obituary

Patricia Rae Mostrom was 81 when she passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 in the comfort of her home on the north side of Holland. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ricky Mellang, and her daughter, Christine Tague.

Patricia is survived by her children, Nancy Davison of Vermont, Jon & Michelle Mostrom of Missouri, Julie & Don Klomparens of Holland, Michigan, and Todd Mostrom of Holland, MI; grandchildren, Matthew Mocini, Joshua Mocini, Melanie Mocini, Nicholas Tague, Deanna Cannon, Julie Riggs, Amanda Klomparens, Bethany Klomparens, and Rachel Klomparens. Pat also had 14 great-grandchildren.

Patricia Mostrom was born on February 4, 1934 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Alvin and Ruby Mellang. When Patricia was 16 years old, she married Dale Mostrom on December 22, 1950. After marrying, Patricia stopped attending high school to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. In 1965, Dale & Pat moved to Saugatuck, Michigan. Later in life Pat went back to high school to receive her diploma; she attended Saugatuck High School and graduated in the Class of 1975.

After Pat graduated from high school, she went on to take some college courses at Grand Valley State University. She moved to Holland, MI with her children in 1977 where she continued to be a stay at home mom. After moving to Holland, Pat got involved in the Veteran of Foreign War’s Club (VFW), Disabled American Veteran’s (DAV), and AMVETS. She is a past President of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary in Holland, past President of the AMVETS, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a lifetime member of the DAV. Through the DAV, VFW, and AMVETS she got involved in working bingo, and as years passed she stayed involved with bingo by playing it.

When asking Pat’s family and friends what type of woman she was, I heard many things like loving, caring, friendly, strong, beautiful, trusting, outgoing, involved, and open. Pat enjoyed things like going for walks with her great-grandkids, planting flowers, shopping, watching game television shows and sports, cooking everything from “scratch," talking on the phone, feeding the birds and geese, adding to her collection of pigs, and being a fan of the Michigan State Spartans.

A graveside service will take place Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Pat's memory to American Lung Association of Michigan.
