Age 79 Sachse, TX Tuesday Died in her sleep. Patricia Kerekes Berninger, age 79 of Sachse TX, formerly of Portage MI, passed away February 6, 2018. She was born March 30, 1938, in Chicago IL to Leslie and Gizella (Mentes) Kerekes. She graduated from Notre Dame high school in Chicago in 1956, and married her husband, John Berninger in 1958. They were married 59 years. Patricia & John moved to Michigan in 1975 and they joined St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. She became a member of the choir, the bell choir, the funeral choir and a cantor she loved to sing. She participated in the national choir completion of 1995 when St. Catherine won first place. She also sang with the Grand Rapids Sweet Adeline's chorus, and served a term as the chorus board president. Patricia received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northeastern Illinois University in 1974, and a Master of Science in Librarianship from Western Michigan University in 1979. She worked at Hackett Catholic Central High School in Kalamazoo MI and retired after many years in education. They moved to Texas in 2017 to be near their daughter and her family; and joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rowlett, TX. But during the fall and winter she became very sick with intestinal infections and was in the hospital several times. Shortly before her death, the pastor at Sacred Heart anointed her at the hospital. Patricia is survived by her husband: John Berninger of Sachse, TX; son: Kenneth Berninger of Dublin, OH; daughter: Sandra Berninger King of Rowlett, TX; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Other loving relatives include: Denis, Judy and John Bonifert and Diana Vincenti of Arlington, TX, Jone Barker of Illinois and Linda Steward of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest son David Berninger. She loved her family and they loved her. She will be dearly missed. Funeral services at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Portage, MI will be at 11:00 AM on Mar. 3, 2018, with a visitation at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Texas.
