Olive Hazel Gregory, 91 of Traverse City died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at home being cared for by her family. She was born in Gillingham, Kent, England the daughter of Frederick Charles and Kate Elizabeth (Smith) May.

Olive was raised and lived in London most of her adult life. She was a telephone operator for British Telecom during WW II. She met her husband Len, a rear gunner with the Royal Air Force and they married in London in 1949. Olive was a homemaker and later returned to British Telecom from where she retired in 1988. Olive and her husband moved to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1988 to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. While in Champaign-Urbana she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

In 2002, she moved to Traverse City with her daughter and son-in-law. Olive was a member of the Traverse City Church of Christ where she participated in many church women functions. She volunteered at Munson Medical Center and brought joy to all those she encountered.

She enjoyed gardening, arranging flowers, cooking and entertaining and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Her family, friends and caregivers will remember her as a sweet, gentle lady with a kind spirit. Olive’s smile will remain in the hearts of many.

Olive is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Burgett of Traverse City; grandchildren, Michelle, Gregory and Stephen Berry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Len Gregory; and sisters, Vera Silver and Marjorie Sangster.

A memorial service and luncheon to honor Olive’s life will be held at the Traverse City Church of Christ on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan, Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
