Norma J. Mozier

Norma Jean Jones Mozier passed away on May 25, 2016 at the age of 91.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio to Mabel and Austin Jones on March 2, 1925, Norma spent most of her formative years in Springfield, Ohio, graduating from South High School and then Wittenberg College (now University). She belonged to the Alpha Xi Delta sorority on campus and was chosen as Alma Mater Queen in her senior year, the greatest honor that could be bestowed on a female student at Wittenberg.

Armed with a BA in education, she became an art teacher in Springfield. Having met Richard W. Mozier (Dick), she waited for him for the duration of his service in WWII, and they were married in June of 1946.

Moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1958 and then to Livonia, Michigan in 1963, Norma found pleasure in volunteer work. She was the room mother, the tour chaperone, the PTA officer, the helper at Girl Scouts, the driver to countless school outings. She was an avid supporter of her children’s school activities from kindergarten to graduation, and continued her involvement with Alpha Xi Delta in an alumnus capacity until just a few years before her death. She was also a member of the DAR and of AAUW. With the passage of time, she and Dick went on a cruise to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. And many will remember that she always won all the money at the Kentucky Derby parties.

But her greatest joy of all was her family and she was always glad that they all lived nearby: daughter Tommi Mozier West (Ken) of Livonia and son Rick Mozier of Dearborn, and grandsons Brady West (Laura) of Dexter and Dan West (Rachael) of Westland. In due course she became the great-grandmother of Brady’s Carter and Everleigh, and of Dan’s Avery and Evan, and there was no greater thrill.

Norma loved her own pets and all the pets of family and friends, and therefore requested that donations, if any, be made to the Michigan Humane Society. Norma will be greatly missed by family and friends, all of whom were touched by her generosity, unflagging concern and willingness to help.

Interment will be at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park, Livonia, in the Garden of Rest, right in front of the marble bench inscribed, “Norm and Dick, 54 years together.”
