RACINE-- Nancy A. Poulson, 81, passed away October 6, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Nancy was born in Racine on Nov. 5, 1933 to the late Matthew and Marie (nee: McNamara) Poulson.

Nancy graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1951. She received her Bachelor of Science

degree from Dominican College and a Master of Education degree from the College of Racine. Nancy retired after 54 years of teaching from the Kenosha Unified School District. She received many awards and recognition during these many years of teaching. Among them were: St. Catherine’s High School Hall of Fame, Who’s Who Among Teachers, Kenosha Unified District Distinguished Service Award, Southeastern Educators’ Hall of Fame, and the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights.

Nancy was very active in teacher and other union activities serving as Treasurer of the Board of the Kenosha Education Association, as a building representative and on the negotiating team for over 30 years to foster better relations between school board, taxpayers and other educators. She was also a Wisconsin Education Association Council Delegate to WEAC conventions for over 30 years. In 1996 and 2002, she was named the Labor Unity Dinner Honoree. She was a past Chairperson of the Racine Democratic Party and was named the Racine Democrat of the Year in 1999.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her dearest friend, Betty Karecki (Racine), nieces Cathy Poulson

(Racine), Debbie Warner(Racine) and Vickki (Randy) Krocka (Fairfax, VA); nephews Gary (Susan Wagner)Poulson (Madison), James (Dee) Poulson (Gay Mills), Charles M. Poulson (Milwaukee), Tim (Debby) Poulson (Waukesha) and Richard (Janet) Poulson (Milwaukee); many great and great great nieces and nephews; sister in-law Judy Poulson (TN); closest friends Pam Lorentsen (Racine) and Marianne Cool (Boynton Beach, FL); and the thousands of students she loved in her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her sister Florence Warner and brothers Lawrence, Richard and Charles Poulson; sister in-law Joyce Poulson; and nephew Michael Warner.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at 11a.m. with the Rev. Ronald Crewe officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 7p.m. and will continue on Monday morning from 10 to 10:45 at the church before Mass begins. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Ave. following the church service. Those wishing to remember Nancy may direct memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School.
