Jacobs, Nancy K. Grand Rapids, MI Formerly of Kalamazoo and Traverse City, MI Nancy passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 in Raybrook Manor in Grand Rapids, MI at the age of 78. She was born on November 30, 1937 in Nevada, Missouri, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Steincross) Johnston. Nancy graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1959. She met her future husband, Dr. James P. Jacobs, at the University of Iowa and they married on October 1, 1960. The Jacobs moved the family to Kalamazoo to set up his practice in 1968. During her almost 30 years in Kalamazoo, Nancy was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo and volunteered with the USTA Boys National Championships, where she was recognized for her many years of service. Nancy was also active in Service Club and Women's Auxiliary of Kalamazoo. Jim retired in 1997 and they moved to Traverse City where they were active with the Central United Methodist Church, Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and the Long Lake Association. Nancy also volunteered with the Traverse City Conventions & Visitors Bureau. Nancy loved her family most of all. When not cooking, baking or volunteering, Nancy enjoyed biking, reading, gardening and knitting. She loved Christmas and would start her baking traditions soon after Thanksgiving. On March 14, 2006 Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. Surviving are three children, Jay T, Jacobs of Jefferson, WI, John W. Jacobs and his wife, Cathy Aebischer of Chicago, IL and Julie A. Jacobs of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren William Jacobs and Claudia Jacobs; a sister, Jane Johnston and her husband, Tom Krusko; a brother, James Johnston and his wife, Karen; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, December 29th from 2-4pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A memorial service will be held 11:00 Friday morning, December 30th at First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, 212 S. Park Street with Rev. Steve Charnley officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, St. Coletta of Wisconsin or the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy.
