Myron (Mike) Rice, Jr.

Myron (Mike) A. Rice, Jr., age 78, of Kalamazoo, Mi passed away Thursday September 22, 2016. Mike was born, November 2, 1937, in Kalamazoo, MI to Myron A. & Martha Ann (Crane) Rice Sr. After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High school in 1956, he attended Western Michigan University. He joined the IBEW local #131 as an apprentice and retired a journeyman electrician. Mike married his sweetheart, Carol (Hamlin) Rice, in 1958. He was a pilot in the 60's and 70's and a member of the civil air patrol. Mike donated generously to veterans organizations. He was a Master Mason. A lifetime member of the NRA. Mike enjoyed metal detecting and watching old westerns. He enjoyed summers at the cabin on Lake Superior. He is survived by his mother, Martha Rice of Naubinway, his sisters, Nancy (Gene) Olson of Brimley, Pam Benson of Naubinway, four children. Dawn (Rice) James of Lake Michigan Beach. Michael Rice of Kalamazoo. Chris (Deana) Rice of Kalamazoo. Lisa Rice of Las Vegas, NV, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his father Myron and Golden Retriever, Bo. cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo or any Cancer Society. Mike was always an honest, hard working, responsible man.
