Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!

On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, Myra Kleis Berry went to heaven. There she was met not only by a choir of angels singing her favorite hymns, but also her husband Roy Berry, her son Michael Berry, her daughter-in-law Nancy Berry, her brothers, John, Paul and Carl (Helen) Kleis and many other loved family members and friends.

Myra was born on December 21, 1923 in Holland, Michigan to Gladys and Clarence Kleis. She was raised in Holland, Michigan attending public schools and culminating her education at Hope College where she earned her education degree. There she met the love of her life, Roy Berry, when she accompanied his rich baritone voice with her perfect piano playing. Together for 63 years, they lived in the states of Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania forming many lifelong friendships along the way. They retired and moved back to Holland, Michigan in 1982.

Throughout her life she held various part time jobs and many volunteer positions. Her favorite duty in life was being a wife and mother, then a grandma and great-grandma! She left behind her children, Steve Berry, Jill (Bill) TeWinkle and Lynn (Scott) VanLente-Hoover, and her grandchildren Peter (Julie) TeWinkle, Christopher (Emily) Berry, Kate (Chad) Meyer, Hilary (Michael) Sefton, Meryl (Michael) Vink, Adam Van Lente (fiancée Janelle Zanoni), Meredith (John) Russell and Brooke (Zach) Winterhalter, and step grandchildren Stephanie (Coreyi) Schepper, Stacilyn (Jeremy) Wolters, and Shawn Hoover. She was so happy to be here for the birth of her great grandchildren, Wil, Luke, Joshua, Reid, Jack, Elias, Charlotte, Beau, Flynn, Max and Greta.

A service of celebration will be held at Hope Church, 77 West 11th Street, on Tuesday (May 10) at 4 pm, with the Revs. Gordon Wiersma and Jill Russell officiating. The family will greet those in attendance after the service. Memorials may be given in Myra’s name to Hope Church or Hospice of Holland. We wish to thank nurse Kim of Hospice of Holland and the wonderful staff at the Warm Friend and Rest Haven Care Center for their companionship and tender care. Amen.

Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel.
