She was born in Grand Rapids, MI, on May 22, 1937, the daughter of the late William and Helene (Ruster) Penning. She enjoyed horseback riding with her father, who bought her a Tennessee Walker at auction; she named him Gay-Feathers. They both also competed together at the state fair and 4-H events with Corriedale sheep. Her brother, Bill Jr, heroically served in the army and died serving our country in World War II. Muriel graduated from Plainwell High School and attained a Licensed Practical Nurse Certification from Bronson Hospital. On April 18, 1957, she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Kloosterman who preceded her in passing in 2015. Her father was the founder and owner of the Tot Shop, which later became The Tot to Teen Village. Muriel's other brother, Robert, later purchased the business and her husband, Ron, served as the renowned Manager for many years. Muriel has blessed countless friends, family and those in need with her arts and crafts talent. Her creativity was a common thread throughout her entire life and gave her great fulfillment.
