Millicent Jean Wiest, 83, died February 12, 2009, at the rural Marshall home where she lived with her daughter. She was born April 23, 1925, at Hendricks, Delta County, Mich., a daughter of Archie and Maude Michau Sanville. She was married to Russell O. Wiest on April 24, 1948, at Battle Creek. He died May 1, 1989. Milly was trained in nursing at Escanaba. She worked at the Battle Creek Sanitarium and at Fort Custer, Battle Creek, during World War II. She worked in the obstetrics department at Albion Hospital for more than 20 years and was named employee of the year there. She was an accomplished gardener who cultivated roses and many other flowers and decorative plants at her home at 306 Crandall St. in Albion, where she raised her family and lived for more than 45 years. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Sims, of rural Marshall; two sons, Paul R. Wiest, of Farmington Hills, and Oliver Wiest, of Macomb, Ill. She leaves nine grandchildren: Leslie Schiermyer, Queen Creek, Ariz.; Elizabeth, Collins, Florence, Ariz.; Alan Fleming, Marshall; Nathan Wiest and Lucas Wiest, Farmington Hills; Rebekah Raeburn and Eliza Wiest, Chicago; Rachael Martin, Springdale, Ark.; Dr. Erica Wiest, Port Washington, Wis.; and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Norma Haring, of Cornell; and four brothers, Gordon Sanville, Gladstone; Alan Sanville, Escanaba; Ronald Sanville, Cornell; Michael Sanville, Cornell. She was predeceased by four brothers: Archie "Bub" Sanville Jr., Roy Sanville, Richard Sanville and Robert "Butch" Sanville. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, of Marshall, 14711 Old U.S. 27 North, with the Rev. Len Schoenherr officiating. A family memorial service and interment will be held in the spring near her birthplace in the Upper Peninsula. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Marshall.
