Michael Weaver

The words "devoted husband and father" make frequent appearances in memorials. Though identical, these four words represent traits as singular as the men who possessed them. For Michael Weaver, it meant a devotion remembered as strong, almost fiercely protective of his wife of 62 years, Rose Anne. For his children Lisa and Michael, it was a devotion to teaching the value of personal responsibility and hard work, which softened in later years to a simple devotion to their happiness and contentment. For his granddaughters Keegan and Grace, it was the devotion and indulgence unique to grandparents; resulting in a relationship leaving grandchildren to believe the likely next step for a deceased person is canonization. Michael was not a statesman, though he lived a life bound by a profound sense of integrity, fairness and honesty that precious few leaders of men and women possess. He was not an artist. He left that to his wife Rose Anne, a former gifted public-school educator turned gifted artist. He supported her work in photography, painting and glass by carefully setting up her booth at the Art Fair in South Haven, where they enjoyed a summer home and many friends. He arose before dawn each summer for the commute into Kalamazoo, so his wife and children could enjoy the beach all summer long. Michael was not a man of high finance though his attention to the smallest of details and near compulsion for organization proved to be invaluable after his passing. He was not an engineer but was keen to build a car for his son to win a soapbox derby and build a kitchen for a wife then enamored of Julie Child. Michael was the Common Man that American composer Aaron Copeland celebrated when he wrote his Fanfare. Rock solid and dependable. Thoughtful and humble. Midwestern in his unflinching confidence that hard work was the route to success. Worldly in his tolerance and understanding for anyone who had a different experience or point of view. Michael Frederick Weaver, born March 9, 1939, battled through illness, he said, because you never know what interesting thing might happen the next morning. Then he passed away, late in the evening, February 26, 2022, leaving his wife Rose Anne (Cekola) Weaver of Kalamazoo and South Haven; his daughter Lisa Ann Weaver of Kalamazoo; his son Michael Todd Weaver of Las Vegas, Nevada; his granddaughters Keegan Rose Giffels of Chicago, Illinois, and Grace Margaret Giffels of Kalamazoo; and brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Debbie Weaver of Kalamazoo. He was a devoted husband and father. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S.
