Michael Shear, age 39, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2017. He was born in South Bend, IN, the son of Jerry and Ilze Shear. He was a graduate of St. Joe High School Class of 1997 and was a member of the 95' State Championship football team. Michael had a loving heart, giving personality and was kind to everyone he met. He was loved by many and was known for spreading joy wherever he went. Michael was a passionate Notre Dame football fan and was blue and gold through and through. He also loved to be outdoors, enjoyed fishing and spending time at Long Lake in Three Rivers. He was a great cook and loved to grill and entertain. Michael was proud of his Latvian heritage and spent many summers at the Latvian Camp in Three Rivers. Above all Michael loved his family and his friends. He was a wonderful, brave father who leaves behind many memories to be cherished. He is survived by his son, Andrew; former wife, Jasmine Shear; parents; brothers, John (Jennifer) Shear and Jason Shear; nephew and niece, Carter and Paige Shear; extended family; Mildred Denny, Fred and Jeanette, Para, Patrisse, Pethane Prince and Mikel as well as many close friends. He was preceded in passing by his grandparents, Frank (Willa) Shear and Haralds (Marta) Klarks. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, beginning at 11:00 AM, at the Latvian Evangelical United Lutheran Church, 118 S Kendall Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49006 (off Cherry Hill Ln.) with Rev. Aija Graham officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with the funeral service following immediately after. Interment at Riverside Cemetery.
