Following a twenty-six year battle with diabetes, Michael J. Engaas, age 46, died of a massive heart attack, Friday, April 22, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 5, 1969 and was just thirteen days short of his 47th birthday and fourteen days short of the family trip to Las Vegas.

Michael was a graduate of William Horlick High School. He was known for being the life of the party. He loved trivia and shocked everyone by his knowledge. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Persian Gulf War. He enjoyed playing his drums in various bands throughout the area. Michael earned a bachelor degree in Communications from UW-Parkside and was currently attending Gateway Technical College working towards a Culinary Science Degree.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Marjorie (Nee: Bryan) Engaas and his sister, Dawn; aunts and uncle, Vicky Bryan, Lori (Bob) Ludwig, Bill (Kris) Engaas; cousins, Scott (Mercy) Bryan, Susan (Brian) Crowe and their children Brandon and Jordan, Sheri (Jeff) Tos and their children Aiden and Austin, Lindsay (Eric) Hoaglan and their children Conner and Kinley, Kristin (Erik) Helling and their daughter Brielle, Erica (Tim) McCue and their children Caeli and Keira, Darren (Amanda) Engaas and their son Desmond; many other dear friends and his little buddy Freddy the dog. He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland G. Engaas; Uncle Ralph Bryan; and Aunt Dorothy Bryan.

Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held Sunday, May 1, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. George J. Kafer officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. until time of service at 2:00 P.M. Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Memorials to Christ Church United Methodist have been suggested.
