Michael Guess

Michael Lewis Guess of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the age of 61. Mike is survived by his wife: Joleen Guess; father: Ernest Guess; children: Samantha (Jeremy) Lee of North Liberty, IA, Alexa Hughes of Kalamazoo, Shawn Guess of Hickory Corners, Michael Guess of Kalamazoo, Lisa (Bryan) Geairn of Delton; and Kristi (Brett) Fender of Schoolcraft; Step-children: Jeard (Beunafe) Holroyd of Kalamazoo, Casey Holroyd of Delton, Laura McAllister of Kalamazoo, and James McAllister of Kalamazoo; grandchildren: Emily Hughes, Kameron Geairn, Skylar Geairn, Crosby Lee, Lila Fender; brothers: Mitch Guess of Kalamazoo, Matt Guess of Reed City, and Mark Guess of Grand Rapids. Mike is preceded in death by his mother: Janit Guess; grandson: RJ Hughes; and uncle: Jim Kaake.

Mike was born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated from Parchment High School in 1975. He worked various jobs and retired from Spartan Barricading. Mike cherished family more than anything and loved spending quality time with them. He loved watching Michigan football. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping. He was always fascinated by history and traveled to visit historical land marks.

Mike met the love of his life, Joleen, in 2013. They quickly realized, with similar personalities, they were meant for each other. They lived in Joleen’s hometown in Iowa for a year, then moved back to Kalamazoo. They were married on June 25, 2016.

With unending devotion to the people he loved, Mike Guess was a blessing in the lives of his family and friends. Deeply loved by all who knew him, he will be forever missed.
