De Loof, Michael J. of Kalamazoo Went home to be with his Lord on Friday, November 20, 2015. Mike was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished Papa to his grandchildren, and a loyal friend to many. He put his faith into action with a generous heart and a genuine desire to help those around him. His greatest joys were encouraging his children and creating memories with his family. Michael was born April 1, 1953 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Melvin and Nellie DeLoof. He was a life-long member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church where he served on the Council and volunteered in many ways. He was employed by Pfizer for over 30 years. He served 27 years on the Westwood Fire Department and also served in various capacities with the Kalamazoo Christian Schools. He was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled woodworker who gifted many with his beautiful work. On August 15, 1975, Michael was united in marriage to the former Myra Essenburg who survives. Their 40 years of marriage was celebrated this past summer. Also surviving are three children: Dana (Jason Zeinstra) of Caledonia, Kelly (Jesse Foppema) of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, and Katelyn (Michael Aggen) of Crestwood, Illinois, eight grandchildren: Aidan, Noah, and Emma Zeinstra, Jack, Addison, and Mikaela Foppema, and Ellie and Ava Aggen, two brothers and one sister, David (Mary Ellen) DeLoof, Stephen (Kimberly) DeLoof, and Susan (Ric) Kleiman, and several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Nellie DeLoof. Services will be held Wednesday, November 25 at 1:00 at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Road, with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. Private interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street.
