Mel Rotier

August 31, 1920 – July 23, 2014

Traverse City, Michigan- Mel age 93, passed away of natural causes on July 23, 2014.

Born August 31, 1920 he was the son of the late Cornelius and Jenny ( VanZorenmen) Rotier.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Estelle (Hansen) Rotier, his brother, Glenn Rotier, and his sister, Kathryn Marek.

Mel is survived by his daughters, Jenny Marie Rotier, of Lansing Michigan, and Judy Gill, of South Bend Indiana, two grandchildren, Gerrit (Lisa) Gill of Granger Indiana, Kim Gill of South Bend Indiana, and 7 great grandchildren.

Mel was a US Navy Veteran, serving 4 years as an Aviation Machinist First Class.

Mel sold office furniture at Franklin DeKlein in Lansing and then became an Insurance Agent eventually starting his own agency, Grand Traverse Insurance, with his wife Jane.

Mel was the president of the Long Lake Association. Mel and Jane were members of the Friendship Force traveling as ambassadors to many countries and hosting members in their home.

Mel was an elder of both the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lansing, as well as Peoples Church in East Lansing. Mel was a charter member and Deacon of Northern Lakes Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. Mel also started a program to insure Pastors, with disabilities, income in over 28 churches as a National Self Insurance Company.

Mel was a life member of the Elks Lodge #323, in Traverse City Michigan, and won an International Award with the Jaycees.

Mel loved to play golf and enjoyed living on Long Lake with his wife for many years.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Lakes Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
