Traverse City – Medford William Sattler, 82, of the Village at Bay Ridge, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born in Cedar on December 17, 1933, he was the son of the late John and Harriett (Stanton) Sattler.

A 1951 graduate from Leland High School, Med worked for and later managed the family business (Leelanau Telephone Co). After the company was purchased in 1966, he continued in a variety of technical and management positions with Continental Telephone Company. Med’s telephony career spanned 41 years and involved many moves east with his growing family; eventually settling in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire-where he lived for the 40 years. Med was a long-time member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Knights of Columbus, and the Lions and Rotary Clubs, both of which he served as local president. He devotedly supported his local parish, and served as commissioner for the Tilton, NH Sewer Commission.

Medford was a loving husband and family man. He enjoyed spending time with friends; especially, playing golf, dominos, and bridge. In his declining years he could still beat all comers at pool. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 43 years, Lenore (Novak) Sattler with whom he loved to travel, dance and host big family events. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Geraldine (Novak) Sattler; children Lane M Sattler (Marcia) of Warminster, PA: Lynn-Marie D Wozniak (Paul), of Rochester, NY; Lonn M Sattler (Jo-Anne) of Barrington, NH; LeeAnn M Hauck (Dennis) of Interlochen, MI; Timothy P Sattler, of Tilton, NH; Leslie J Sattler (Nancy) of Dedham, MA; and Sara L Swart (Michael) of Vandenberg AFB, CA; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers John (Margaret) of Waterford, MI & Rev. Rozell (Norma) of Marion, OH; sister Iva Dzuirkiewicz of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Spencer and Carroll; and sisters, Priscilla McConnell and Virginia Arnold.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Lenore Sattler Memorial Scholarship may be made to: Saint Gabriel’s – Sattler Scholarship, 108 School St., Franklin, NH 03235
