Marylee "Lee" Weese of Kalamazoo passed away at age 84, Friday May 19, 2017 peacefully surrounded by family at Rose Arbor Hospice. Lee was born November 26, 1932 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Frank and Juanita (Nourie) Loftus. Her parents, sister Lillian Wilcox and brother Patrick Loftus preceded her in death. Lee graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1951, the last January class. Later that year she met Bert O. Weese and after 6 dates they eloped to Indianapolis, where Bert was attending military school. Bert served as Sergeant 1st Class in the Army for 20 years. Together Lee and Bert traveled the world including two tours to Europe and countless moves in the USA. She loved everything about their traveling adventures. After Bert retired they returned to their hometown of Kalamazoo. Her favorite memory was moving to their first house on Garfield Ave. Bert and Lee celebrated 65 years of marital bliss in November 2016. Together they raised four children. Lee was a loving mother who encouraged each child to reach his or her potential. She was a lifelong advocate for them and was always there with a helping hand and supportive words. In 1990 Lee began her passion for growing roses and joined the Kalamazoo Rose Society. She served as newsletter editor for 15 years and also became a Consulting Rosarian with the American Rose Society. She is survived by her husband Bert Weese and her children Teri Weese, Matt (Linda) Weese, Christine (John) Paver, Anthony Weese, grandchildren Stephanie Hannar (Miguel Garcia), David Hannar, a brother Don Michael Loftus, and many nieces & nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:30 am with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. A visitation period will precede the service from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Interment will occur at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, The American Rose Society or the Alzheimers Association . We love you, mom.
