Went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 5, 2019. She was born on January 7, 1933 in Gibbon, Minnesota to Walter and Florence Messner. She was raised on a farm along with four brothers and one sister and graduated from Gibbon High School. In 1954, she wed William (Bill) Ohland, and was married for 64 years. They lived in Minnesota, Montana, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula before residing in Kalamazoo for the last 48 years. MaryAnn was a devoted wife and loving mother to her four children. She enjoyed her grandchildren and prayed faithfully for her family. She loved God, and loved people. Her family, friends, and sewing sisters were the joy of her heart. She was involved at Zion Lutheran Church for 40 years with sewing quilts for World Relief, attending weekly Bible studies, providing meals, and baking cookies. For many years MaryAnn volunteered with the Visiting Nurse Association to give caretakers some respite. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, bird watching (especially hummingbirds), playing bridge, bowling, and golfing. She had a special way of making people smile with her acts of service, sense of humor, kind words, grateful heart, generosity, and good cooking. MaryAnn made the world a more beautiful place and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by husband Bill; children Sandy Inselman (Gary), Bill (Becky), Shari Gajary (Ted), and Bruce (Sarah); 19 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Robert, Kenneth, John Messner, and sister Dorothy Jacobson. She was preceded in death by parents Walter and Florence Messner and brother James. Visitation will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI, on Monday, June 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd., Kalamazoo. The family will greet guests from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Lutheran World Relief Sewing through Zion Lutheran Church, or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. A special thank you to the staff at Northwoods Village Memory Care, Story Point, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, and Zion Lutheran Church for their loving care, compassion, and support.
