Life Story / Obituary

Print

Mary Lynn Mintz was born May 8, 1952 in Manistee, MI to doting parents, Jeanne and Phillip Nowak. She was the oldest of four children, and maintained close relationships with her parents and her siblings throughout her life.

Her caring, compassionate nature led her to a career in nursing. Which also led her to meet her future husband Don. She married Don Mintz on June 16, 1972. They shared 46 years of marriage, three children, two grandsons, and three grand-dogs. Throughout her time as a nurse she routinely put the well-being of others before her own. This practice would reemerge as a pattern throughout her years as a wife and mother as well.

She will be remembered as a kind-hearted and funny daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, gammie and dear friend.

Mary Lynn lived for long hugs, and appreciated the natural and beautiful things in life. Her love of family and strong faith carried her through some difficult times. She appreciated the seemingly small things in life- flowers, spoiled pets, pleasant fragrances, the lakeshore and anything colored purple. She also loved to sing and play the piano.

She was a breast cancer survivor and endured many challenging medical conditions. She used humor to cope and always maintained her dignity and compassion.

She is survived by her husband Donald Mintz, mother Jeanne Nowak, brothers Paul Nowak and Scott (Cathy) Nowak, sister Amy (John) Moolenaar, children Katy Mintz, Emily (Jason) Mintz and Adam (Mary) Mintz and grandchildren Gideon Mintz and Sebastian Britton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary Lynn passed away at home peacefully on June 24, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father Phillip Nowak. Her memorial service will be held Sunday July 1 at 1 p.m. with visitation at 12 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Please visit Mary Lynn’s personalized webpage for directions, online guestbook, or to leave a condolence.
