Mary Jo Streur, 72, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio June 1, 1943 and she passed away peacefully on August 14, 2015 in Holland.

She was preceded in death by her father, William (Mary) Slaven, and her mother, Ruth (Russell) Walker.

She is survived by her children; Donna Hammon of Holland, Darlene (Don) Brouwer of Zeeland, and Michael Streur (Carlos Perez) of Fort Lauderdale FL; grandchildren; Jodi (Dave) Elzinga of Grand Rapids, Dustin Brouwer of Zeeland, and Nicole (Nate) Schuurman of Wyoming as well as great grandchildren; Gavin Elzinga, Merek Elzinga and Jacob Schuurman. Brothers and sisters; Ann Walker of Holland, Bill Slaven of Carlsbad CA, Nancy Johnston of Virginia Beach, Jim Slaven of Edmond, OK, and Bob Toney of Galion, OH. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary Jo (“Jo” to her friends) was one of the first employees at Castex Industries (now Tennant Commercial) in Holland, taking responsibility for many jobs, from cleaning the bathrooms to implementing their first computer accounting systems. She was a loving mother and friend who enjoyed an active social life in Holland as well as in Florida during many winters. She was preceded in death by her closest friends Ruth Lanting, Linda Willet and Judy Versendaal.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Lakeshore Senior Care, Appledorn Assisted Living Center and Hospice of Holland for their care, and especially her former husband Wayne (Toni) Streur of Fort Lauderdale for his support during her illness.

Memorial services will be 11 am Wednesday, at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue. Visitation will be 7-9 pm Tuesday also at the chapel.
