Hunt, Mary F. Of Portage, MI Mary Frances Hunt, age 63, passed away Feb. 27, 2019 in Kalamazoo, MI. Mary was born July 26, 1955 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Richard and Patricia (Clark) Searles. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Hackett Catholic Central High School. On October 7, 1977, she was united in marriage to Gary A. Hunt. Mary and Gary were longtime members of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where Mary was employed as the Pastoral Associate for Justice, Charity and Hospitality for many years. She was also co-founder of St. Catherine's Pre-School serving from 2012 to 2017. A large part of Mary's life was devoted to her church's philanthropic mission. She worked closely with the migrant communities in Michigan and often traveled to orphanages in Mexico. She spent many Thanksgivings serving dinner to her parish family before delivering meals to the elderly and those in need. She loved shopping, lounging by the pool, cheering on the Detroit Tigers and planning parties. Mary was a social butterfly, always finding and making connections with those she met. She loved her husband, children and all family members with her whole heart. Family was a very important part of Mary's life. Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Gary A. Hunt; their four children Beth (Tony) Yozzo, Christopher (Jill) Hunt, Abby Hunt and Allison Hunt; granddaughters Emma Yozzo and Madison Lanier; a sister Carolyn (Kevin) Simmons; nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Ann Elizabeth and Margaret. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, where a scripture service will conclude the evening at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4 at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W. Centre Ave., Portage) with Father Robert Flickinger, Celebrant. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family in Marion Hall for a time of food and fellowship. A private family graveside service will be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's memory may be directed to Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo.
