Age 84, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019. Mary was born on January 28, 1935, the daughter of the late Jesse and Irene (Peters) Bennett. She graduated from Dunlap High School in Illinois and went on to attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, where she earned her Registered Nurse diploma. Mary volunteered as a nurse with the Kalamazoo Chapter of the Red Cross, and was deeply involved in the arts, including the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Theatre. She was also an avid supporter of the Gilmore Keyboard Festival. Mary was very active in her children's school activities, having served on the Plainwell Schools Board of Education and the PTA. On September 10, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to John W. Hendrix, MD, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Franklin Bennett; in-laws, James White and Virginia and Charles (Adeline) Hendrix and nephews, Keith White and Chuck Hendrix. Mary is survived by her four children, Melissa Olken, John, Jr. (Eileen), Todd and David (Cindi) Hendrix; grandchildren, John William, III (Christina) Hendrix, Rachael (Jordan) Wall, Joshua (Joy) Hendrix, Kathleen Lapa, Dawn and Jennifer Hendrix, Alexander and Charles Olken, Aaron (Melissa), Brian (Megan) and Jacob Hendrix and Hannah (Tim) Hernandez; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Lisetta Belle White and her children, Rodney, Craig (Nancy) and Jeff (Bobbi) White, Judy (Kent) Bainter and Laurie (Doug) Brinkman; as well as nieces, Patricia (James Sczudlo) Chicoine, Adele (Jeroen Rietveld) Hendrix and Som Hendrix. A private family service was held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, Ministry with Community or Planned Parenthood.
