A wonderful life, Mary Ann Svoboda, age 101, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at The Villa at Lincoln Park. Mary was born in Racine, July 18, 1915, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nee: Halcsik) Walek and was a lifelong Racine resident.

On June 7, 1941 she was united in marriage to Edward J. Svoboda who preceded her in death in 1994. Mary retired from Goldblatts after twenty-five years of service. She was an active and longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Mary had a great zest for life and enthusiastically enjoyed bowling up to ninety years of age, golfing in her younger years, working many years at the voting polls, knitting, playing bingo, and bird watching. Most of all she cherished time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sister, Cele Muelver of Racine; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother and sisters, Joseph (Mildred) Walek, Elizabeth (Walter) Malchow, Lucille (Vaughn) Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, Robert Muelver.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 23, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Lucy’s Catholic Church would be appreciated.

Mary’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Mary’s neighbors, her wonderful friends, the Anderson and D’Acquisto families, who graciously helped her throughout the years, and to the entire staff at The Villa at Lincoln Park for their compassionate and loving care.
